Principle Explanation: The zinc layer on the surface of galvanized square pipes provides effective corrosion protection. Zinc reacts with oxygen in the air to form a protective film of zinc oxide (ZnO). When this protective film is damaged, such as by scratches or abrasion, the zinc layer protects the substrate of the square pipe through the principle of electrochemical corrosion. Since the electrode potential of zinc is more negative than that of iron, in a corrosive environment, zinc is corroded as the anode, while the iron substrate is protected as the cathode. This sacrificial anode protection method can effectively extend the service life of square pipes.
Application Scenario Demonstration: In outdoor facilities, such as street lamp poles and the supports of simple carports, galvanized square pipes can effectively resist the erosion of rainwater, dew, and pollutants in the air. Even in some environments with mild industrial pollution, galvanized square pipes can maintain a relatively good appearance and structural integrity, and can generally be used for about 10 - 15 years.
